We've been far too lenient for far too long. The issue isn't really about other companies -- though I don't see why we would use our paid bandwidth to advertise someone else's product -- it's about the behavior of some people on the board. If your only goal is to start slapfights, your days are numbered.
We want everyone to come to the site and be happy, but we're not going to tolerate the sort of asinine behavior that's becoming more widespread.

You, me, and some guy named Fred go to a website.
That's 3 hits.
You and I both post, but Fred just lurks. That's still 3 hits.
So how are lurkers (hits) more valuble to a company than posters ( posts and hits, since you have to hit to post.)
Nice try, but TMP has nothing to do with the toys. And TMP lost a lawsuit. Nothing to do with market success there.
Lurkers are just as important as posters. The purpose of the board is for people to find out about McF product, and discuss if they so chose.
When the board becomes such that McF fans don't enjoy or feel comfortable visiting the boards, whether to view or post, there is something wrong.
Also, if some idiot posts random crap that does not contribute positively at all, does that make him more important than somebody who is looking for useful information and choses to keep asinine comments to himself? I would say quite the opposite.

This is Internet logic gone awry. No one -- at least no one who has a clue -- EVER said lurkers are more important than posters. What we said is many posters' behavior prevents lurkers from becoming active members of the community. It's unfair and it will no longer be tolerated.
Goff probably gets somewhere between 300 and 600 e-mails messages A DAY. EVERY DAY. And a lot of those messages are complaints about message board behavior.
It's really not complicated. If you can't act like a reasonable human being and treat others with respect then you can find another message board to post on. Simple. Everyone wins.

is it safe to say that 200-400 of the 300-600 are direct complaints about peeker? id think so.
one quick question. how much email do you guys get that is suggestion or product critique based? do thery out weigh the #of posts on the message board regarding the same issues?
